 “Dogs Trust is totally opposed to any method of euthanasia that causes aggravated suffering and we responded to the consultation issued last year on future regulation of animals being used in experiments. We urged the Government to ensure that where the UK’s standards are higher than the EU, they should be maintained as any other approach could undermine the Coalition Government’s pledge to work towards reducing the use of animals in scientific research; this cannot under any circumstances be achieved at the expense of welfare.

We believe that the Government appears to have listened to the outcry from members of the public and the concerns of Dogs Trust as they have indicated that they will not replace the UK’s existing law with just the minimum requirements of the new directive.  We have written to the Home Office to ensure that this is the case and that stray animals will not be used in experiments in this country.”
