In the early hours of Friday 16th September in Downton a little voice was heard, a lone dogs bark pierced the darkness of the pre-dawn disturbing a local resident. Thinking it was a neighbourhood dog she tried to ignore the crying outside her garden, but the clever little dog got through the gate and stood barking at the front door demanding to come in. Unable to resist his cries she went down to find a scruffy little bundle of matted hair with a rapidly wagging tail. She let the unusual visitor in, who readily settled in enjoying the comfort of a warm house after the heavy storms of the night before. A few cuddles later the lady’s daughter named him ‘Jimmy’ hoping he could stay but instead he was brought to Downton Vets to get him checked for an identification chip which fortunately he had but this was only part of a tale that began in 2012. The owners of the dog who was actually called Henry had him stolen along with another dog a female in Derbyshire 185 miles away they were very surprised to hear Henry had been found. The original owners are collecting Henry on Sunday after a four and a half hour journey to take him back to the family who have been searching for him all this time.Today he has had massive tangles of urine soaked hair and soiled matting cut off his feet and is going to have a lovely bath at his lodgings, through it all he has smiled and been happy he is quite a little character it never ceases to amaze me that no matter how bad animals are treated they still trust humans.
While we don’t know where he has been and probably never will this weekend be vigilant when out and about, if the storms allowed Henry to escape from where ever he was being kept maybe there were others with him who also escaped who could have gone in in any direction maybe the other dog taken at the same time escaped she could be wandering around scared.

As you can see in the pictures Henry needed his feet dematted in the last picture you can see his feet again and what was carefully taken of his feet by Vet Fran and Nurse Lisa it took a long time the full story of how he was found in in another post on our page. He was very lucky but Henry was only one of a pair stolen in 2012 she is still missing.
Finally, for today is the picture of Hollie taken in 2011, stolen in 2012 from Derbyshire, judging by the state of Henry she may well not be found sitting cossetted on someone’s lap but more likely in a contained environment, shed or the like. Have you recently been offered Lhasa apso puppies? remember to ask to see the parents, mum especially if there is nothing to hide you will be able to see her. There are lots of legitimate breeders out there who wouldn’t hesitate to show pups with mum just be wary of anyone who says mum has just gone for a walk etc. Lets see if we can find Hollie she is chipped so can be identified easily.
