A pedigree cat was held to ransom for £5,000 by a gang, fueling concerns that criminals are continuing to steal pets.. Maggie, a one-year-old British shorthaired Blue, had slipped out of her home in Kensington, central London, and was snatched by at least four catnappers this month.
Maggie’s owners, put out flyers offering a reward. The next day they got a phone call from a stranger demanding £5,000. Two days later, after further phone calls from different people from withheld numbers, the owner identified Maggie at a pub in Brentwood, Essex while his friend haggled the ransom down o £1,500. Maggie was in a cat box accompanied by two yound men and a woman in her 30’s and his friend was with another young man.
“The way the whole thing evolved suggested a tried and tested routine and method. It was pretty organised” owner Mr Meadows said of the ordeal.
