Debbie do you mind hi-lighting this ‘unregistered’ chip thing as well please? It could mean anything but so many dogs (including our stolen one) have been placed as unregistered on their chips…..
I just taken a dog to a good independent rescue (actually for them to keep safe) and she also has an unregistered chip so its quite common place and really does mean possibly stolen or anything.
I was so green 7 weeks ago (ours was taken just under 7 weeks) but now I am stating to wonder if being chip does help? All Pup’s chip will tell you is ‘you need to talk to the vet that put it in’…. that wont help us get her back and yet we used to think chipping was how we would get her back.
Please can you just get the message out that unregistered often does mean stolen? If the get scanning petition works (and please let it work and work soon as I was horrified to find it wasn’t already mandatory) can you then see about changing this useless unregistered thing? It wont help get ours back and it wont help with the one I took to the rescue it sort of means nothing……
Pup had one of 3 numbers and rather than flag all 3 as stolen they de-registered them….. Then the other lady turns up with an unregistered chip….. I have also seen a few both on dogslost and on sites all over the Internet with unregistered chips…. It needs to change. We are working at narrowing down out Pup’s actual number but even then they don’t seem to put stolen though I thought Halo’s did say that? I am so green but becoming a bit disillusioned though chipping has to be the way to go…..
Sarah Williams Debbie she was stolen on the 16th November (you kindly picked her upon your site actually) Petlog were notified on the 18th and they flagged the chips to make sure we had Pup covered BUT I checked it out – really out of curiosity- and it came up as unregistered. I really have kicked up about it and got a friend who has a bit of clout to talk to Petlog…. Now Nick tells me it does come up as missing on the Halo but only from the 30th Dcmeber so the kicking up might have helped. It does mean though that Pup was out there as unregistered for well over a month and who knows where she might be now…. Its not good enough, it really isn;t good enough. …… They have to use something that is instantly recognisable……. Pup is only 6 months old now and well its just so upsetting x
