Microchipped dog Menace, picked up as a stray and put to sleep!

JUSTICE FOR MENACE!

Menace was chipped and tagged and had a red tag on to say he was chipped. His owner looked for him day and night and phoned everyone possible and yet the people who should have helped reunite Menace, put him to sleep.  It’s heart breaking.

Menace went missing on 15th December’14 and was last seen at a family member’s house,  Green Lanes Ilford, Essex, IG3 9RY.  He had escaped out of the back garden.

7th January’15:- The owner’s found out that SDK  for Redbridge Council had picked Menace up as a stray and that he had been sent to rescue.

Owner received the worst possible news. Poor Menace was ‘Put to Sleep’ by the council.

The owner’s  learned that Menace did not make it to rescue as after the 7 day rule, if no owner is found,  a stray dog becomes the property of the council, they can then decide to rehome or Put To Sleep.  The pound killed him because he failed the temperament test and declared him unhomable and never sent him to rescue.

8th January’15:-  Owner is asking for legal help after unsatisfactory response to her complaint. They have been given the number for Wheldon Law, DogLaw and Justice for Dogs, we hope they can help owner  get some justice for herself and Menace.

How tragic for the owner; having found her dog after being lost, and then discovering that it has been killed.

Owner was told by Redbridge Council that menace was scanned and a letter sent to the registered keeper.   We also understand that the warden had previously returned Menace through the phone number.

Menace’s microchip details were up to date.  A neighbour had remained the keeper for the disabled owner, in case Menace needed picking up.  No letter or phone call was received by the neighbour.

The new Microchipping regulations should include standard operation procedures for vets, agencies and other establishments when it comes to microchip scanning procedures.  Our pets lives are in their hands!!

Was Menace stolen and then dumped without his collar and ID tag?

Was Menace scanned?

No proof of a letter being sent has been forwarded to the owner.

Was it just bad timing for Menace as this was just a couple of days before Christmas and he was a Bull breed and there was no room in a rescue?

Obviously there was a huge error made by someone here and our thoughts are with owner.
