Have you seen this car in Farnborough, Hampshire? POLICE STATEMENT.

We have been made aware that there is some concern among dog owners in the north of the county following a report of a suspicious van seen in Farnborough yesterday.

A member of the public reported the incident as she was concerned about the behaviour of the driver and passenger who she thought may have been trying to attract a dog towards the van.

We encourage people to report their concerns to us and do take reports seriously. On this occasion no offences were committed. We tracked down the owner of the van who runs a local shop and was out delivering newspapers while his daughter was sat in the passenger seat playing with a squeaky toy.

We’d like to reassure the community that there have been no reports of dog thefts in the Hart and Rushmoor area. Please be assured that if there is a genuine concern we will make dog owners aware.

If you have any concerns you can always speak to a member of your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team by calling 101.

ORIGINAL Copied post:- This literally just happened. As people know there are dogs and cats going missing in our area. This car pulled up outside my house in the other direction (so i could see them facing me) and started squeaking a dog toy, then when they saw me, they drove off. Then they came back. The car was facing how it shows in the picture, and I managed to get a picture, they wound the window down and started squeaking a dog toy again. I ran outside to ask them what the were doing, but they speeded off.  If you own a cat or more specifically a dog, be aware. This happened at 8.53 this morning (17th June’13) next to Chapel Lane, Farnborough, Hampshire ! Please share this to warn people.

Spoke to the police and that’s not the right reg.   Basically what they have said is that they are well aware someone is stealing dogs in the area. What they do is, they find a dog they want, take it and then either sell it on or blackmail the owner to give them money to get the dog back. If anyone spots this, the police urge you to contact them straight away as it has happened alot. They said to make sure you lock up the house when you go out and don’t leave the dog alone in the garden. The police are circulating the area and will pull over this car if they see any matching it’s description. The police want to stop this so please keep an eye out. The police are taken it seriously and want to get whoever is doing this.
