UPDATE 26th June14. Copied post on DDA from Cheryl Jackson Update – the dog has been removed from the dog pound and is now back with the RSPCA – they have called the DLO and he will come to determine if his is a pit bull or pit bull type – I don’t know when maybe this week. The Inspector dealing with the case called me and this is fresh and confirmed information – this dog is thought to be one of the dogs that was filmed in the channel 4 documentary – if anyone watched it and I didn’t – he was the one involved in the actual dog fight they filmed , apparently owned by a 17 year old in the local area to where he was found .The RSPCA have named him ‘Mutley ” he is a sweet dog and seems fine with females but is male aggressive and dog aggressive .He is being cared for and is happy and eating well and his wounds have calmed down -they think he is around 2 years old .If he is deemed type they will have to PTS if not they have promised to call me to discuss options . I am not sure how his fate will be affected by a possible criminal investigation but if anyone has any information or can reach out to ask for information on this dog and his owner – he was found in Mount Street Nechells the RSPCA would be very grateful to at least be able to prosecute the person responsible for this .If anyone has contacts with Channel 4 and can push them to release key information ? The people involved in this are as keen as us to see this dog get the home and life he should have had from the beginning .
UPDATE 26th JUNE’14 from Tan Baker UPDATE: Sorry to be the bearer of not very good news but my local dog warden has spoken to Birmingham city dog warden and this dog is apparently very aggressive with other dogs, so pitbull or not he would probably not be suitable to rehome. They said many 100’s of this type of dog go through their doors every year and have to be pts as they can’t be found homes or are just too aggressive. We are always shouting about the amount of perfectly nice staffies sitting in rescue centres but they have a serious problem there and there is not space for all of them, which must make it a very hard job being a dog warden. The route of the council taking ownership of the dog is also not an option as they would remain the owner and the person that takes it on will become the ‘keeper’, which means that the council will still be responsible for any problems that the dog causes and, as in their view based on experience this dog IS a pitbull type, they are not prepared to do that. Very sad for everyone concerned, dog, wardens, dog lovers etc etc.
UPDATE 25th JUNE’14. June Jeffrey Update. “A lady on another group has been in touch with the RSPCA – made numerous phone calls and after being promised a call back for the 3rd day finally got one yesterday. She has posted this update: “RSPCA just called me back the man who actually collected the dog from the park in Birmingham – to his knowledge the dog is still with the local dog warden – awaiting someone to verify his breed type. He was actually collected on Monday 16th so his 7 days in the pound are up today. Due to the injuries and swelling they have not been able to confirm all needed measurements to assess his breed type so this will be done when the swelling has gone down. I have asked the Dog warden involved to call me and will post more if and when he does,”
Another lady has asked if he is getting treatment for his injuries and mentioned getting money for him if needed. Someone else has said they have seen on another page that Birmingham City Council have him in kennels as a Section 1 Dog under the DDA. Original post:- The dark-coloured dog is currently in the care of the local authority and has to be identified by a dog legislation officer because it is thought it could be a pit bull breed.
So after all he has been through he will probably be put to sleep!!
