20 JANUARY 2014

A BOY has been reunited with his pet Alsatian thanks to a campaign on social media.

Dylan Lynch (10) was left distraught when his dog Ben was stolen from the family home in St Johnston, Co Donegal, a week ago.

It is the latest in a series of dog thefts in the county.

But a campaign on Facebook to find four-year-old Ben finally paid off at the weekend when a man who said he’d bought the pet after seeing it advertised online returned it to Dylan’s dad Daniel.

“We were heartbroken,” said Daniel.

“Dylan got Ben when he was six and they’re always together. Dylan didn’t eat for two days after Ben was stolen. He was distraught.

“Thankfully Ben has been returned to us but I would warn other pet owners to be on the lookout for thieves.”

Last week world champion kickboxer Tommy McCafferty found his dog, three days after it was stolen from his home in Burt.

He believes his American Akita dog Saoirse had been drugged.
