Attempted Dog Theft caught on CCTV. Dogwatch Alert 948.

Attempted Dog Theft:-

On Tuesday 17th September, at approximately midday, a member of Dogwatch disturbed 4-5 men as they attempted to break into his kennels on an estate near Goring, Reading, Berkshire. The individuals were in a black ‘post office type’ van (perhaps peugeot or citroen), with ladders on the roof on the passenger side.

One of the individuals was captured on CCTV attempting to open the kennel before firing a stone from a catapult directly into the face of a dog that was barking at him.

This may not be connected but on the same day three males knocked at a property in New Road Hill, Midgham, West Berkshire, asking the owner if they could look at the roof. A new roof had been installed two years previously and the men claimed they need to check the roof as the work may have been faulty. One of the men climbed onto the roof and caused some damage before asking for £3000 to fix it. The males were driving an ‘S’ registration small black Peugeot van. All three were white and were wearing black tops with a logo on it. One of the males had black hair, was in his 30’s, with a slight moustache.

Mickey Smith of Sutton Lane, Slough was charged with the offence on Sunday (29/9) which relates to an incident when a dog was attacked using a catapult at an address in Goring on 17 September.<br /> Smith was remanded to appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court today (1/10). Information provided by a member of Dogwatch proved to be vital in this case. Thames Valley Police has charged a 29-year-old man with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal (Reported in Dogwatch 948). Mickey Smith of Sutton Lane, Slough was charged with the offence on Sunday (29/9) which relates to an incident when a dog was attacked using a catapult at an address in Goring on 17 September.
