florence's story
Lionel Blair’s wife Su relives that dreadful afternoon:
“On February 8th 2006 around 3.45pm, I drove to the park with our dogs Jennie and Florence. I went to a cul de sac at the end of which is a tunnel. Through the tunnel there are fields, it is a popular place with dog walkers, especially in the winter since you do not have to worry about getting locked in the park when darkness is approaching.
I parked at the end of the cul de sac, near the tunnel; there were several other cars there as usual. I let the girls out of the car. Jennie likes to walk in front and Florence always walked behind me. I walked through the tunnel, Jennie was there waiting as usual, I looked behind me but Florence was not there. She is ten years old and never ever runs off. I called for her and went back and forth through the tunnel, several regular dog walkers who knew us helped. We searched and called until well after dark but she was gone. We believe she was taken and put into a car.
I had Florence clipped regularly because she preferred it. She is half Bearded Border Collie so if left unclipped her hair would grow quite long. She is not as big as a beardie, about the size of a large spaniel.
Florence had regular ear infections. If she was with a caring owner she would have to be taken to a vet. At the time of her loss we contacted as many vets as we could. If all vets scanned all new dog patients on their first visit and checked against a register there would perhaps be a better chance of her being found.
We miss her so much.”
Please look at Florence’s poster. Florence is microchipped. If vets scanned all dogs on their first visit, Florence would be home now!
Please pass Florence’s information on to ALL dog groomers. This is new information and not on original posters!
Please ask your vet to get scanning, if your vet has any problems with this ask them to contact us or call Petlog on 0870 606 6751 or visit them online at www.petlog.org.uk
